Phil Liggett, free beer, our first sale and giving money away!

October 19, 2007

The Bike Fed of Wisconsin had its annual fundraiser yesterday with special guests Phil Liggett and free beer. About 600 people showed up. There was a silent auction and our Kind Singlespeed/fixie was in the mix with all of the other Madison based bike companies.

I figured it would not attract any bids and nothin’ but ridicule from the kludge crowd, let alone get the the minimum bid of $250. Usually people are looking for great deals on donated product. 100% of the proceeds go to the Bikefed, so everyone leaves feeling good.

I was kinda shocked when I saw bikesnob’ers hanging around the Kind…and bidding. The bike received over 15 bids and from what I can tell, was the most bid on bike of the evening and went for retail. More importantly though, all those dollars went to the fed.

Kind announced that it will donate $5 of every bike sold in Wisco to the Bike Federation of Wisconsin. We plan to donate $5 of every bike to local organizations that support cycling in the communities our bikes are sold.

We will be auctioning another singlespeed/fixie at Winterfest in San Francisco on Dec 2nd and hopefully we will have a good response there too.
