Welcome to the Kind Bicycles Blog

September 25, 2007

Why did we start KIND? Initially we saw there were no companies focusing on a truly sustainable product. No one is addressing the entire lifecycle of how a bike is sourced, made, purchased, used and disposed of. While the use of the bike is very sustainable and most companies in the business are involved in bicycle advocacy, there did not seem to be a focus on the people and the impact to the environment during the manufacturing process. We don’t profess to be fully sustainable, that is impossible in the industry at the current moment. What we are doing is making conscious choices in everything we do and hope to raise awareness to at least start the conversation.

Bravo - Thank you for keeping the I-light dynamo hub in the revised(?) commuter specification!  I know you were considering battery (re-chargeable or one-use throw-away) lighting for a while, but this is simply “not sustainable” when multiplied by millions of riders, × thousands of miles, × 7+ generations.

The US market is more than ready for an “environmentally friendly” domestic commuter bicycle - having “lusted from afar” for the wonderful creations available to German, Dutch, etc. riders.

Naught but good will come of this.  Now where do I send my check?
